House prices in Taranto
The OMI values of the Italian Revenue Agency, area by area: a yardstick for comparison, not an appraisal of a single property.
In Taranto, the typical value to keep in mind is a range between €650 and €915 per square metre. The median of the minimums is €650/m² and the median of the maximums is €915/m², for homes in normal condition across the 12 zones with values published by the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) for the 1st half of 2026 (OMI). The OMI property values (quotazioni OMI) are the average values the Agency publishes every half-year zone by zone, with a minimum and a maximum in euros per square metre.
The gap between zones is wide. The lowest minimum is €250/m², in Città Vecchia, while the highest maximum is €1,400/m², in OMI zone E19 of Talsano and surroundings, in a suburban area. If you are looking at an auction in Città Vecchia, the reference runs from €250 to €370/m². If you are looking at an auction in zone E19, the reference runs from €1,100 to €1,400/m².
Rents on registered contracts, meaning the average rents on contracts registered with the Italian Revenue Agency, in 2025 were around €4.8 per m² per month for both the 3+2 agreed-rent lease (canone concordato) and the 4+4 open-market lease. The 4+4 open-market lease is the contract without rent restrictions, while the 3+2 is the agreed-rent lease (canone concordato). The agreed-rent lease covers 1,408 homes and the open-market lease 554, so the figure for the agreed-rent lease is based on a larger sample.
In the municipality, in the 2nd quarter of 2026 there were 592 home sales (provisional data), and 2,228 over the last four quarters. About 44% of purchases are made with a mortgage, and the annual change is zero.
One last figure to understand the picture: in 2024 the 117,531 taxpayers in Taranto declared an average of €23,406, according to the MEF. This number tells you what people declare on average, not what a home costs, but it serves as a point of comparison. - Euro per m² for the sale of homes in normal condition (standard homes, where the area lists them), minimum and maximum of the area.
- Average of the minimums / maximums
- Average, over the areas of the band, of the minimum values and of the maximum values.
- Median of the minimums
- Half of the areas have a lower minimum value than this, half a higher one (the same for the maximums).
- Most expensive vs cheapest area
- The maximum value of the most expensive area divided by the minimum of the cheapest one.
- Median rent
- Median, over the areas, of the central value of the rent range, in euro per m² a month.
- Areas with an excellent-condition value
- Areas where the Agency also publishes the value for homes in excellent condition.

What the OMI range really tells you
The OMI values of the Italian Revenue Agency are ranges for an area, a property type and a period. They do not value a single flat and do not replace a professional appraisal. A fair comparison also needs condition, floor, exposure and documentation.
On the auction pages, the “below the area value” discount shows how far the minimum offer per square metre is below the minimum of the area range. A lower value does not equal an expected gain.
